For well over two centuries, the Hudson's Bay Point Blanket has been a Canadian icon associated with legneds of exploration and the development of the nation. Since 1780, Hudson's Bay Company has commissioned and marketed these fine English-made woolen products. The points, or small black bars on the side of the blanket, signified the size, and therefore the value, of the blanket when offered for trade with the First Nations of North America. The green blanket is one of the earliest solid colours offered by HBC and dates from the 18th century. This colour was preferred by the Kwakiuti and Nookka First Nations of the Pacific North West. Long one of the standard colours, it was reintroduced in 2009.
