HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY Scarlet Point Blanket

The signature HBC Collection Scarlet Point Blanket is woven in rich history. Solid red blankets first appeared in the 18th century. Red was preferred by the Coast and Interior Salish First Nations in the Pacific Northwest. One of the standard colours offered in the 20th century, the scarlet blanket has long been one of the most popular colours after the multistripe. The scarlet blanket is unique in that it is actually woven as a white blanket and is overdyed afterwards.

Careful attention to detail and authenticity ensures that today's customer is acquiring the same high-quality blanket as the one produced centuries before. Today the Point Blanket is manufactured in Yorkshire, at the finest woollen mill in England. The number of points, or handmade thin stripes, on the edge of the blanket reflects its size.

  • 100% woven wool
  • Twin: 3 1/2 points 60” x 86”
  • Double/Full: 4 points 72” x 90”
  • Queen: 6 points 90” x 100”
  • King: 8 points 100” x 108”
  • Made in England

Blue Christmas

By Blueboy

from Coquitlam (BC)

Comments about HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY Scarlet Point Blanket:

Why isn't there more selection of colours? I wanted the blue blanket with a black band that was available years ago but now they tell me I'll have to wait til it "comes around" again. When I bought my first Bay blanket there were all kinds of colours on offer - I got a black one! - but now red is currently the only one (not counting the iconic striped number) available at my local store. Also it would help if they put this item under the "Bed" section, except that they'd need a subsection for "Blankets" which they unaccountably lack.

Comments about HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY Scarlet Point Blanket:

We have now purchased several of these blankets, two for ourselves and a few more as gifts. Their price is high, however we found that when the sales come around the twin size blanket tends to be 50% off, still expensive but much easier to afford.
They are not itchy like the terrible sweaters you might remember, however the wool is still slightly coarse, so do not expect a fleecy feel. The wool is of a high quality and very comfortable. I have used these blankets every say since purchasing them and have not regretted the purchase.
The only down side is that you cannot easily clean these blankets. Since we have a dog who tends to shed, it would be nice to be able to wash the blankets to remove the hair. To this end we have found that we can remove the hair with a soft brush or lint roller.

Comments about HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY Scarlet Point Blanket:

The first time I used one was when I was a child. It came back from a WW2 navy vet and was still in great shape. I didn't have the opportunity to know him but always respected where this blanket came from.
Since then, my wife and I have bought a queen for our bed and a single for our couch. They will last forever with care, and are as warm and cosy as you can imagine.
I hope to pick up two more singles for "throws" in the near future. There aren't too many things of quality from the past that are still available for purchase today. But, this is certainly one of them.

Comments about HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY Scarlet Point Blanket:

I'd prefer if a Hudson's Bay blanket, traditional to Canada, was made in Canada and not abroad (China)

Great blanket, super warm, looks awesome at the end of a bed or on a sofa or at the cottage

Comments about HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY Scarlet Point Blanket:

All my life since I was a young Boy Scout I had wanted a Hudson's Bay blanket but could not afford. When I got a good job I bought one and have enjoyed it for many years always taking care to store it in Summer. When the snow flies and the winds howl I take it out and snuggle under it as warm as toast and cozy with wife. Only drawback it is so warm I don't want to get out of bed but unfortunately must wait until Saturdays to sleep in. This will last me a lifetime and my kids will then have to fight over who gets it. It is Daddy's blanket and always will be known as such. Thank you Bay for making winter bearable.
